From Grade One to Grade Six, students in the Elementary School will continue to build upon the skills and passion for learning developed within the Reception (KG2) Program. Teachers will use a range of strategies to continue to nurture the natural curiosity possessed by children in order to facilitate a life long love of learning. The Elementary curriculum will be standards based, the US Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards will provide the framework for learning. Teachers will integrate the ‘STEAM’ (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) approach to teaching and learning in order to provide opportunities for students to make connections between learning and engage students in problem solving and critical thinking activities.
Core subjects will be taught by the student’s homeroom teacher. Students will move to different areas of the building for classes taught by subject area specialists who will support the academic programs. ASHK will offer Mandarin, music, art, drama and physical education as specialist subjects. In addition, a technology integration specialist will work with teachers inside their classrooms on integrating technology into the curriculum.
